Francis Spear...our founder

1931-2020

Group-3.JPG

The aim of the group is to provide a practical, well equipped aircraft, suitable for local flying and longer touring flights.

All members share equally the ownership of the aircraft and it's associated equipment and expenses. The membership at 2025 stands at 10.

The Robin DR400/180 has proved to be the ideal aircraft for this mission, having fixed undercarriage and fixed pitch propeller which keeps maintenance to reasonable levels.

We are based at Nuthampstead airstrip which is 6nm south of Duxford (EGSU). We have the convenience of the BKY vor being situated at the extended threshold of runway 05, so no excuse for getting lost! We sit under the Stanstead CTA the base of which starts at 2500ft AGL. There are 7 aircraft based here and we use the common frequency 0f 135.480.

The rules and regulation of the group as now constituted, dates back to 2003 when our founder Francis Spear decided to give up flying due to health reasons. So the group was formed from remaining members and has carried on successfully with additions and changes along the way.
